There are only three campgrounds within the park. One is lean-tos on a remote island with no vehicles allowed. The other two, Blackwoods and Seawall, are on Mount Desert Island, and Blackwoods is closed for 2006. There are plenty of campgrounds near the park. In fact one, http://www.mainecamper.com/ White Birches, is surrounded by the least visited part of the park on MDI. A descriptive, but not complete, list of campgrounds is at http://www.acadiainfo.com/. The campground with the best location is Mount Desert Campground 207-244-3710 in the center of the island at the head of Some Sound, the only fiord in the east coast.
